Well, here goes nothing.
The “nothing” is a half marathon, so technically that’s something, but it is nothing by comparison...
It is nothing compared to the horrors that were endured by our fellow countrymen during those hot, insufferable three days at Gettysburg in July of 1863. It is nothing compared to the horrors that awaited the townsfolk in the days, weeks, and even months that followed that battle. It is nothing compared to the horrors that our servicemen face, even today, when injury and trauma leave them with shadows and obstacles in their daily lives that, thanks to their courage and sacrifice, few of us will ever have to know. It is undoubtedly nothing compared to the horrors that my grandfather faced (but never spoke of) in his days of WWII.
It is nothing, really, but a half marathon.
So, what the heck; here goes “nothing”...
On April 26, 2020, with a bit of luck and some serious training between now and then, I will be running (possibly limping, maybe even crawling) my first ever half marathon. I will be 45 years old and am wondering, quite frankly, what I’ve gotten myself into, but I digress. The race is being held on the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The funds raised by this event will go to Paralyzed Veterans of America. You can learn more about their organization at pva.org. If you are able and willing to donate, please take a moment to do so.
I humbly thank you - and them.
